Scott Pherson was approved by the Concord Board of School Trustees as the new Director of the Fitness and Performance Center on April 19, 2021. He will begin his duties in June.
Pherson is currently the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and teacher at Columbus East High School in Columbus, Indiana. Prior to that he coached and taught at Northeast School Corporation in Farmersburg, Indiana. He is a graduate of Anderson High School in Anderson, Indiana and a 2010 graduate of Ball State University.
Pherson was the 2020 National High School Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association Indiana Coach of the Year. He holds certifications as a USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach, a USA Weightlifting Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and a National Strength and Conditioning Association Performance Enhancement Specialist.
Throughout his career, Pherson has served as an assistant football coach, head boys basketball coach, assistant girls basketball coach, and currently serves as head boys track coach at Columbus East.
At Concord, Pherson will co-teach weight training classes during the school day and work with coaches to coordinate strength and conditioning programs for all CHS athletic teams. He will also be in charge of scheduling, operations, and equipment maintenance in the Fitness and Performance Center. Pherson replaces Matthew Murphy, who resigned from the position in January.
