Catie Brenneman & Braeden Messenger Named 2023-24 Concord Athletes of the Year

Each year, members of the CHS coaching staff nominate and vote for a male and female athlete of the year. The winners can come from any grade and any sport. Coaches consider factors such as overall athletic ability, attitude, academic achievement, being a good teammate, participation in other sports and school activities, and a host of other factors. This is the most prestigious annual award presented by the Concord Athletic Department other than Hall of Fame Induction. The recipients of this award can be the same people as the Kiwanis Athletes of the Year, or they can be different. The 2023-24 Concord Female Athlete of the Year is junior Catie Brenneman. Catie is a sophomore swimmer. She has earned two varsity letters and has been a state finals medalist seven times (out of eight possible) in her high school career. The school record in any gender and any sport is ten career medals, which is held by her sister Grace. She currently holds two school records and one pool record. As a freshman she broke Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsay Benko’s sectional record in the 200 free that was 30 years old! She has earned All-American status in multiple events. The 2023-24 Concord Male Athlete of the Year is senior Braeden Messenger Braeden is a senior who is graduating with nine total letters in tennis, basketball, baseball, and swimming. He becomes just the fifth male athlete at Concord High School since 1986 to be named first-team all conference in three sports in the same school year, joining Thaddeus Molnar, David Yoder, CJ Shafer, and Armen Koltookian. Braeden was a key member of each of his teams this season and played a big part in the tremendous improvement of each team’s record this year! The following athletes received the Athletic Achievement Award for earning seven or eight varsity letters during their high school career.
