By Madison Miller | Jun 5, 2023 12:00 AM

Each year, members of the CHS coaching staff nominate and vote for a male and female athlete of the year. The winners can come from any grade and any sport. Coaches consider factors such as overall athletic ability, attitude, academic achievement, being a good teammate, participation in other sports and school activities, and a host of other factors. This is the most prestigious annual award presented by the Concord Athletic Department other than Hall of Fame Induction. The recipients of this award can be the same people as the Kiwanis Athletes of the Year, or they can be different. The 2022-23 Concord Female Athlete of the Year is senior Macie Swinehart. Macie graduates with eight athletic letters, including four in volleyball and four in track. She was named to the All Conference Team in each of those sports as a senior. She set the school record of 43′ 5.5″ in shot put and placed ninth at the IHSAA State Finals, becoming just the fifth CHS Girls Track athlete to earn a State Finals Medal. He became just the fourth CHS male athlete since 1986-87 to be named All Conference in three sports in the same school year.
