Each year, members of the CHS coaching staff nominate and vote for a male and female athlete of the year. The winners can come from any grade and any sport. Coaches consider factors such as overall athletic ability, attitude, academic achievement, being a good teammate, participation in other sports and school activities, and a host of other factors. This is the most prestigious annual award presented by the Concord Athletic Department other than Hall of Fame Induction. The recipients of this award can be the same people as the Kiwanis Athletes of the Year, or they can be different. This year’s Concord Female Athlete of the Year is Grace Brenneman. Grace graduates will graduate with four varsity letters in swimming and holds school record in five of the eleven swimming events. She has been a state finals medalist ten times, which is the most of any athlete in school history in any gender or sport. She also received the highly prestigious IHSAA Mental Attitude Award in Girls Swimming, becoming just the fourth athlete in school history to earn such an honor. This year’s Concord Male Athlete of the Year is a tie between senior Jack D’Arcy and junior Armen Koltookian. Jack graduates with eleven varsity letters, including three in football, four in basketball, and four in track. Armen has earned eight varsity letters through the end of his junior year, including two in football, three in wrestling, and three in track.
